Phase I: Departure
32” x 36” x 58”, Mild Steel, Cherry, Slate
The inaugural object is a seat for departure. Drawing on the formal and symbolic qualities of divine historical artifacts, Departure seeks to evoke a similar threshold of ritualistic experience.
Through a synthesis of material and formal metaphors, it emerges as a speculative vehicle aspiring to transport its user into a realm of being where Eternal Recurrence becomes possible.
While physical transportation remains beyond reach, the object offers a space for introspection and recentering, inviting its user to momentarily connect with a sense of cyclic continuity.
Central to this process is the use of archetypal materials such as stone, wood, and metal, chosen for their elemental symbolism and historical resonance. By subverting their industrialized applications in the modern world, Departure seeks to celebrate tangible traces of human process.
The construction of Departure emerges through a series of experiments in 2D and 3D texturing, structural composition, and site speculation, examining how these elements can converge to construct a man-made divinity. The final form was refined through a process of collaging, blending digital renderings with material samples.
