Eternal Recurrence: A Search For Cyclic Return
2024|Thesis Research Project Part I

This project will consist of two phases:

A seat for Dpearture
A site of Arrival

Premise:

This project examines the western conceptualization of life as singular and finite, inwhich the terminal nature of existence engenders a societal condition oriented towards immediacy. Within this framework, the passage of time is commodified, redefined as a quantifiable resource and abstracted from lived experience.

To propose an alternative, this project draws on Nietzsche’s concept of Eternal Recurrence, which envisions a cyclical understanding of time. This theory proposes that all events, configurations, and experiences repeat themselves infinitely, challenging individuals to confront the possibility of living their life repeatedly, exactly as they unfold. By emphasizing a cyclical continuum, Eternal Recurrence offers a philosophical lens for reconstructing our relationship with time.

Within this context, “Departure” and “Arrival” speculate a potential to transcend the constraints of linear time.
